Safety Tips For Female College Students

After high school graduation, everybody’s excited for a commencement that is often perceived as the stage of freedom and challenge. Entering college requires physical, mental and emotional preparation. It is very important to properly nourish your body with the right kind and right amount of food because as we all know, food contains nutrients that make our body strong to withstand all the stress and toxic from the environment. If our physical health is impaired, we won’t be able to execute our normal daily activities in life.

Mental preparation comes next. Establish your goals in life and think of the special people you are doing it for. Be focused on your endeavors but also prepare yourself for trials and shortcomings. (To prevent depression and trauma) Determining your ways to reach your goal within a realistic time frame is also one means of preparing yourself mentally. While being emotionally prepared means not easily pushed over by friends or peers. You got to develop your confidence and self-righteousness.

These aren’t just the things you should prepare yourselves of. As college students, this means Dorm rooms, right? You’ll probably be away from your families until a summer vacation. This implies that you’ll be walking out alone or with your girlfriends when going home, eating out or watching a movie. Being alone in the streets pose great risk for heinous crimes such as rape.

According to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, girls ages 16 to 19 are 4 times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape or assault. The rapists aren’t just masked strangers. It is declared that almost 2/3 of rape cases were completed by someone known to the victim. Some were the victim’s friends and some were the victim’s relative. It is imperative to give our college girls some tips on being prepared for undesirable circumstances that may cross their path.

Tip # 1: Whenever hanging out with friends, going outside alone or just buying snacks downtown, always have a handy defensive armor in your pocket, something like a lipstick pepper spray. This will put you in control even when you’re with a boyfriend. Once he’s making you feel uncomfortable, just slowly glide your hands down to your pocket and spray him right in the face.

Tip # 2: Don’t think that dorm rooms are always safe as the owners tell them they are. Who knows? Maybe the owner of the dorm room might be a rapist himself…

There’s nothing wrong in protecting yourself from bad elements. Besides, you got nothing to lose! Get a door brace for your room to prevent someone from mistakenly or forcefully entering your room.

Tip # 3: Get a burglar alarm. Hang it on any doorknob (non-metallic doors) and it instantly and automatically sounds when an intruder touches the doorknob. Carry it with you and just pull out the metal chain to sound the alarm and deter an assailant.

Never give an aggressor the opportunity to abuse or harass you in any way. College life can be full of fun, laughter and bliss. Just keep these safety tips in practice.

Protecting yourself and your family from harm should be one of your top priorities. Although it requires time going out searching for the right gadgets to equip yourself with. Good thing you can just visit http://www.stunningprotection.net

How to Pick Your Signature Perfume

It’s important to separate yourself from the pack. You need to stand out, and there are a number of ways to accomplish this goal. Many people show off their unique personality through dress, hairstyle, or shoe selection. For something a little more understated, but just as powerful, consider selecting a scent that will immediately identify you to the people you come in contact with everyday. At first, they won’t quite know why they’re having these powerful, memorable feelings. After all, scent is supposedly the sense most strongly linked to memory. With time, however, they’ll come to associate that certain wonderful fragrance with you. Once that connection is made, it won’t easily be forgotten.

How can you figure out which scent best matches your style and personality? A large part of the equation is a simple “smell test”. Go into any local department store, and try on a number of different perfumes. Pick the one that you like the most, and give it a trial period. Wear it to work, out to the bar, and in other social situations where you’ll be in close contact with others. It’s wise not to mention that you’re trying a new perfume. Let their opinions come to you. That way, you’ll know that you’re getting honest feedback instead of superfluous compliments.

This first perfume doesn’t have to be the signature scent that you’re wedded to for eternity. Now it’s time to think about the other aspects of the scent. What does it represent? You would be surprised by the subconscious thoughts and ideas that perfumes can trigger in others. A strong perfume will immediately take another person aback, demanding their attention. This could have a mixed result; do you really want to create such a strong impression before you’ve even had the chance to introduce yourself? Perhaps you’d be better served by something a little less powerful, a scent that flies under the radar until the prey is within reach. Likewise, are you after a more fruity scent, or something that is a bit more masculine?

The scent alone shouldn’t be the only consideration for deciding on your signature scent. Perhaps equally important, what is the price tag attached to the bottle? You don’t want to get addicted to a perfume that you’ll only be able to use sparingly. Consider that your signature perfume is just that: a statement that will make people think of you, and you exclusively. That’s why picking something out of your price range is shortsighted. Instead, consider a slightly less expensive option that won’t break the bank each month.

Choosing your signature perfume should be a fun process, and an expression of exactly what makes you an individual. Remember that you don’t have to settle on the first scent that you come across. Take your time, and experiment with different options that best express your personality. As months turn into years, this scent will become a lasting part of your image to the world, and one that people will look to for evidence that you’ve graced the room with your presence.

How you smell is just as important as how you look. In fact sometimes it can be more important. Smell has a way of effecting people in ways looks never could. Have you ever smell a pillow or clothing that had the perfumes of you mate on it? Scents bring back memories and feelings like no other sense.

Come and find your signature scent at Unique Perfumes. We have a wide range of perfumes. Everything from Christian Dior perfume to Vera Wang perfume.

Miscarriage Alert - Down Syndrome Test and Miscarriage of Healthy Babies

The invasive procedure aimed at detecting Down’s Syndrome is being blamed for an unacceptable high rate of miscarriages of otherwise healthy babies.

Research undertaken by the Down Syndrome Education International or DSEI charity found that two healthy fetuses miscarry for every three which are detected with Down’s in the womb.

The procedures responsible are known as an amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling which involves inserting a needle into the abdomen to extract a tissue or amniotic fluid sample for further analysis. The test is given to pregnant mothers who are believed to be at risk of delivering a Down’s baby after undertaking a blood test.

DSEI chief executive Frank Buckley and lead author of this study which looked at 660 fetuses says that “around 400 babies without Down’s Syndrome being lost in the process of preventing the birth of 660 babies with Down’s Syndrome - that’s around two babies without for every three babies with. I think that’s a shocking ratio.”

In another disturbing finding, Dr Buckley pointed out that 95 % per cent of women deemed to be high risk will not be carrying a baby with the disorder. But most of these women end up having the tests anyway resulting in the unnecessary loss of healthy babies.

The research has lead to calls for the rapid introduction of better screening of mothers-to-be to reduce reliance on the invasive and dangerous tests. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence wants all pregnant women to undergo a combined non-invasive screening procedure which involves both a blood test and scans.

Foetal medicine expert Professor Kypros Nicolaides from London’s King College Hospital supports the reform: “It is completely unacceptable that in order to detect 600, 700 or 800 foetuses with Down’s Syndrome, we must tolerate the intolerable loss of 400 - more or less - normal babies. Our aim must be to improve the detection of fetuses with Down’s in those women who want to have a test and dramatically reduce the number of normal babies that are lost as part of the process of screening and diagnosis.”

Safety on a Date - Carry Your Lipstick For Protection Against Rape

Have you ever been on a date with a friend or someone you think you know? Now that guy or girl has been a little strange at times but hey its a dinner out or a movie what harm can come of that? I know everyone he knows.

While you’re having a fun time but somewhere During the date he say things that just make you feel very uncomfortable but you brush them off, thinking its ok it’s just a date. Then he takes you home and makes you feel like you should have him in for a drink or coffee.

It’s the unthinkable now happens.

Rape is about power, control, and anger. In the real world, High School and College aged girls %26 young women face the dangers of date-rape very, very often. Most of us don’t want to even think about rape. No one is immune from rape or its shattering after effects.

Rape is not about sex - it is an act of power by the rapist and it is always wrong. Rape can happen to anyone (female, male, old, young, literally anyone), but there are steps you can take to reduce your own risk of becoming a rape victim.

Just because someone looks “seems” nice does not mean they are incapable of rape. Look at Ted Bundy He was a good looking guy. One of the best ways to protect yourself is to be aware and always be prepared for anything , one way is to carry Lipstick pepper spray with you at all times. This is a clever way to say safe to be able to get away and know you can carry it with you at all times

Many people believe that rapes happen between strangers in high-risk situations; but the reality is, in one-third of the cases, victims are often attacked in their homes.

Safety on Dates As you know by now, the majority of rapes occur by people you know. Anyone can be raped: women, men, girls, boys, old, young, rich, or poor. In fact, police believe that, in the stranger-rape situation, rapists tend to prey on women who look frightened, easily intimidated, or seem to be daydreaming. Many victims of date rape blame themselves for being raped, thinking that they must have asked for it, or somehow led the rapist too far. In acquaintance rape, the attacker can be a friend, relative, spouse, lover, neighbor, co-worker, employer, employee, etc.

Though the numbers show that date rape is most commonly committed against females, it can happen to both males and females and doesn’t matter if they’re heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual.

High Heels & Good Times

I had an amazing date night last Saturday with Jason. We had a wonderful dinner on a patio overlooking the lake. I’m not sure if my favourite part of the evening was the rainbow that stretched over the lake, the succulent food, inspiring conversation or the awesome guitarist that played a few feet away from us! It was such a magical night and I felt so great being dressed up and wearing my high heels! This of course triggered this week’s tip.

It’s amazing how great you feel by simply dressing up and having a night out on the town once in awhile. I’ve been pretty casual these days and so it was a big decision for me as to which high heels to wear!! I think we need to go out more often!

I have to say that feeling great put me in a state of attracting a positive evening. On the way to the restaurant, we called about getting a reservation. We were told, at 8:20 p.m., that they weren’t taking reservations for the patio and that the wait was so long that we definitely wouldn’t get a table. I had my heart set on going to this particular spot, so we decided to go anyway trusting we would get in. When we arrived, we got the last parking space! We were immediately seated on the patio where they have outdoor living room furniture set up. It was cute %26 private, with a great view to boot! By the time we finished a glass of champagne, our table on the patio, which incidentally was closest to the lake, was ready! It just goes to show what feeling good can lead to! We had one of the best nights ever!

Action Challenge

Since a lot of you want to attract positive experiences into your lives and want to make room for changes, it’s important to feel good as often as you can. It could be something as simple as putting on a great pair of heels or to something more extravagant such as booking a romantic get away. What will it be for you? What can you commit to doing (or planning) over the next couple of weeks?

Are you looking for more peace %26 passion in your life? If so you won’t want to miss our 3 month Tele-dream-class. Visit http://totalharmonycoaching.com/events.shtml for more details on our early bird special.

Dressing For the Sun

Some ladies are so good at dressing for the heat and others just don’t seem to have the flair for looking cool. There is something to be said for not caring how you look when the temperatures are approaching 40 in mid summer but most agree you can feel significantly better if you are not looking too much like a wet rag.

The secret of comfortable clothing is natural fibres. Synthetics sweat profusely despite manufacturers’ assurances to the contrary. Cotton and linen clothes breathe and allow the wearer some ventillation; imperative to avoid meltdown in a hot climate. Avoid long sleeves but sometimes a ‘cap’ sleeve is preferable to no sleeve, as the sun can catch and burn exposed shoulders.

Always wear loose clothing in extreme heat, especially if you are not used to a warm climate. Floaty dresses and loose tops beat the heat and can still look elegant if you choose vibrant colours and styles. Match them with bright lipstick and nail polish and select a handbag which compliments the outfit. Shoes should ideally be flat and ultra comfortable. Feet that are encased in tight shoes with fashionable heels can swell and become unbearably painful.

Jewellery accessories are wonderful for jazzing up an otherwise plain and frumpy ‘tent.’ Large bangles, light beads and wooden jewellery can make all the difference. Sunglasses are a great accessory in the sun.

In extreme heat it is sensible to wear a minimum of make-up as it can melt on your face. Heavy foundation is definitely not a good idea as it can mix with perspiration and cause your face to resemble pink bubble wrap. Mascara is best left at home as it can run, but add a heavier line with a good, solid eye pencil to avoid looking washed out and tired.

Hair is best worn either very short or very long. Shorter styles can be easier to handle if they do not require excessive blow drying to keep their shape. Long hair is easier as it can be worn in a twist or tied up to keep it off the back of the neck. Medium lengths can be scooped up inside a hat for a cooler look.

Handbag provisions can save a lot of discomfort. Carry wet wipes and use them often on hands, face and even legs. They can also be useful for wiping down a hot steering wheel. Carry a small ‘film pot’ container of talcum powder for use when you have finished your ablutions with wet wipes, it can make all the difference. A small bottle of water is always a good idea to replenish energies but avoid fizzy drinks throughout the day.

Sun block should be applied to exposed arms and legs even when not at the pool or on the beach, to avoid sunburn. It is best applied at least ten minutes before you get dressed so the cream has a chance to absorb and dry.

Not everyone suits a hat but wearing one is essential to avoid heat exhaustion and sunburn, especially on the beach.

Clothes with pockets are a great asset because it means you do not have to carry a bag. However, beware of pickpockets and always carry valuable items in a button down or zip up pocket. Long handled bags are more comfortable so the strap can be slung over the shoulder, leaving hands free and less likely to sweat.

Do You Have to Be Male to Practice Misogyny?

…Do you have to be female to be a feminist?

The answer to both is a resounding NO!

But is it really necessary to Eat Our Own! I can’t tell you how many times I have been treated with abject disregard by BOTH male and female sales clerks (I’m sorry…associates). This is not only really bad business, but extremely bad form people!

I hate to say it, but I have come to expect it from the majority of male clerks/associates. And yet, for some reason I am continuously caught off guard when I get that treatment from women. And my annoyance is exacerbated when I then witness her fall all over herself to cater to the guy that walked up after me.

Have you shared this experience? Even when you have listed off a number of items by description that you could only have recited if you knew what they were for and how to use them, they look at you condescendingly. On one such occasion I was asked just that by a clerk whose hands were softer than my then 5 year old daughters,’ and I knew the odds were high that he had never even built a doghouse in his life!

The women do not generally engage in as much dialogue as the men. They have a much briefer format for dismissal, for instance, when I ask if they have a specific item, the retort is a curt, “No”. And I have found that standing there looking at her waiting for additional comment, is basically fruitless because nothing gets added to that.

I know, here I am being silly, but I actually expect courteous follow-up verbiage, like…”No, but let me find out for you”, or, “No, but I will be happy to look that up for you”. Oh, yes…I could enumerate endless options that would fit here nicely after that one word response of “No”, but a blog is not supposed to be another book.

Clearly I have not stumbled upon a lumberyard or hardware store that sends its employees to the Nordstrom School of Customer Service! Hell, a guy could go to Nordy’s and ask for a bra that fit HIM and they would find him one!

The words “women” and “tools” have been paired together since time immemorial, and people still act like we are trying to pee standing up! or something equally as out of our realm as that, when we have the gall to darken the doorsteps of lumberyards and hardware stores. What is up with this?

I would love to have you relate your experiences and offer me your thoughts on how we work together to turn this around and put a stop to it. I am frankly tired of it! It really is an old worn out bias, don’t you agree?
